Terms of service
Last updated: June 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Margin (the "Service," "we," "us," or "our"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Description of the Service
Marginis a permission-aware company knowledge base for Indian SMEs. Your team uploads or forwards documents; anyone with access asks questions in natural language and gets answers grounded in those documents with clickable citations, or an honest “not in your documents.” The Service uses the Anthropic Claude API to interpret questions and write grounded answers, and Voyage AI to embed documents for retrieval.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and capable of forming a binding contract to use the Service. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you meet these requirements.
3. Your Account and Authorization
- You sign in via Google OAuth. You authorize Margin to access only the scopes you explicitly grant —
openid,email,profile, anddrive.file(limited, via the Google Picker, to files you select). - You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account, including the documents and permissions you and your workspace administrators configure.
- You may revoke Margin's access at any time via your Google account permissions page or by disconnecting a connector, which immediately invalidates the relevant stored tokens.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Violate any applicable law, regulation, or third-party right (including intellectual property and privacy rights);
- Upload documents you do not have the right to share with our processors (which include Supabase, Anthropic, Voyage AI, Google Cloud Document AI, Vercel, and Resend — see our Privacy Policy), or attempt to circumvent another user's document permissions;
- Impersonate any person or misrepresent your affiliation with any individual or entity;
- Reverse engineer, scrape, or attempt to extract source code or training data from the Service;
- Interfere with the security, integrity, or availability of the Service.
5. AI Outputs and Your Responsibility
The Service uses large language models to interpret questions and generate grounded answers, citations, and spreadsheet computations. These outputs are suggestions, not advice or final decisions.
- You are responsible for verifying any answer against the source document Margin cites before acting on it.
- AI outputs may contain inaccuracies. Do not rely on them for legal, financial, medical, or other regulated decisions without independent review.
- Margin reads and answers only. It does not generate, edit, send, or take actions on your documents or on any connected external system.
5a. Margin— Knowledge Base Specific Terms
Margin answers questions using the documents, spreadsheets, and notes your team has added to its knowledge base. The following terms apply in addition to Section 5:
- Source of truth. Margin only answers from material you have uploaded, forwarded, or picked. If the underlying document is wrong, outdated, or incomplete, Marginwill faithfully reproduce that limitation. When retrieval confidence is low, it returns “not in your documents” rather than guessing.
- Permissions at retrieval time.Answers are drawn only from documents the asking user is permitted to see. You are responsible for setting each document's visibility and confidential flag correctly for your team.
- Retrieval is best-effort. Search may miss a relevant passage, especially in very long or inconsistently-worded documents. Always verify a critical answer by opening the source file Margin cites.
- Spreadsheet answers. Tabular questions are computed from your structured data, not estimated by the model. We interpret messy structure (merged cells, title rows, multiple tables on a sheet) in memory to answer accurately, but we never alter, reformat, or write back your original file. When a sheet is too messy or ambiguous to answer confidently, Margin will say so rather than guess.
- Connectors are read-only. When you connect an external system such as Zoho, it is queried with your own OAuth token, read-only, and the live result is returned with its source named. External data is never written to, nor cached into, your knowledge base.
- You own what you upload. Marking a document Confidential limits its surfacing but does not change the legal basis under which you uploaded it.
6. Subscription and Fees
The Service is currently provided free of charge during a private beta period. We reserve the right to introduce paid tiers in the future with reasonable notice.
7. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its design, code, and trademarks, is owned by Margin. You retain ownership of your data (uploaded documents, spreadsheets, questions, and the answers derived from your documents). You grant us a limited, revocable, non-exclusive license to process your data solely to provide the Service to you, as described in our Privacy Policy.
8. Termination
A workspace admin can delete or reject individual documents in the Library at any time. Margin does not currently offer self-serve account closure; to close your account and have its associated data permanently deleted from our application database, contact your workspace admin or email us (see Section 13) and we will action the request.
We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or if continued provision of the Service to you would expose us to legal or compliance risk.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI outputs will be accurate.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Margin will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or business opportunities arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim (which, during the free beta, is zero).
11. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email to your registered address or via an in-app notice. Continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the Service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in India.
